Postcards of Summer - by Abebe

School was out and things were slow at work. People dream of grand vacations, quite a few actually just did it. So, from far away places, postcards came, slowly but surely arriving in the mail. Oftentimes, long after the sender has returned home.

>From Hawaii, we learned of Al and Inday Luz Quijano's elegant dinner with their Captain as they cruised the deep waters of the islands making brief stops on land, flirting with the red hot lava gushing out of the volcano in Maui.

Dateline Malaysia showed on the cards received from Isobel, Kimmie and Jordan Miraflor who spent a month vacationing with grandparents Dori and Armando Bernabe in Manila and in Penang, Malaysia where their Auntie Mimi now resides with husband, island resort owner Syed Ishar.

>From Oregon came a message from Dan and Ian Deale, Cyd's "boys" who spent a week of bonding together and visiting with Grandma Shirley Deale.

Darker and looking pretty in their braided and beaded hair, Andrea and Anjelica Concepcion returned after a week splashing on the beaches of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with Mom and Dad, Queenie and Angel.

Through the amateur radio airwaves came the voice messages of Cesar (AB6BN) Katada, who was on a long drive to Texas with wife Metzie, daughter Sammy and Mama Teling. In constant radio contact with Chu-Chu (N6ZIP) Miraflor, Cesar and company checked in from the caverns of Las Cruces, New Mexico and several villages of the Southwest.

After 13 long years of being away from home, Rene (Bimbim) Rocamora finally made a nostalgic visit with his parents, Save and Fe, and his brothers and their families in Larena. Wife Nancy and darling daughter Jaqueline had to stay home because of other commitments, had hugs and kisses waiting for him on his return.

As dutiful as can be expected, Linda Ragas Naguit also spent her vacation visiting her father, Mr. Eusebio Ragas in Lazi. Mr. Ragas, as many of us know, was for many years, Lazi's favorite High School shop teacher.

Cancun, Mexico was the place to enjoy from sunrise to sunset while working up a tan to last till next summer - said the postcard from Pinky and Eric Grbich.

"Waltzing Matilda" was Zenaida Maghanoy's theme song during her two weeks stay in Canberra, Australia, where she visited her younger brother, Reynaldo Alaya-ay and his family.
