GASA Linens Project - President Report
An on-going project

From So. Lake Tahoe to San Mateo - a photo documentary

A Report on the Arrival at Siquijor Provincial Hospital

A report by GASA president, Carmenia 'Bebe' Miraflor.

On Saturday, April 24, 2004, a crew of GASA volunteers went to South Lake Tahoe to load up and haul a truckload full of used linens donated by the Embassy Suites on the recommendation of ES' Executive Housekeeping Manager, Mrs. Elma Talaroc-Senores, herself a Siquijodnon who contacted GASA for the donation.  These linens will in turn be donated to the Siquijor Provincial and Medicare Hospitals, the GASA Youth Seminar in care of the Siquijor Province Science High School, and the indigents of the island province in general.  GASA members will also co-donate some of these items to their individual projects such as schools and churches.

The hauling of the linens was a very exhausting physical experience, from hefting and tossing the bundles into and out of the truck onto carts and finally piling them up in storage again.  We are grateful to Mrs. Senores for offering her housekeeping crew to help the GASA crew cart out the linens from the ES storage and  heave them into the truck. Special recognition to Leo and Cesar for driving the U-haul truck from SLT to Belmont. In the 90 degree heat we had last Sunday, each bundle seemed to weigh heavier as we unloaded them and carted them away for storage.  Nonetheless, we survived and got it all done, sighed a big "whew" after the last bundle was put away, with sweat still damping our brows. In the coming weekends, GASA volunteers will work on stamping the linens, folding and packing them for shipment to the island on May 22nd.  By courtesy of Mrs. Claire Flora-Thompson, GASA was given a discounted shipping cost of $45.00 per box.

GASA owes the following volunteers for their dedication:

Queenie & Angel Concepcion
Cesar Katada (he drove the truck all the way from SLT!)
Leo Mamicpic (he navigated and kept up the chatter to keep Cesar awake and alert, haha!)
Phoebe Miraflor
Chu-chu Miraflor
Bebe Miraflor
Roy Miraflor
Luz & Al Quijano
Parched and hungry at the end of the day, we all went to Penang Garden in San Mateo for a much deserved dinner, courtesy of GASA!

GASA especially thanks Mrs. Elma T. Senores and Embassy Suites SLT GM, Simeon Miranda, for making this project possible.

Any volunteers for the stamping/packing parties in the coming weekends are welcome to join on the following Saturdays, 2004:
