Youth Training Program in Responsible Citizenship and Responsive Leadership

Evaluation

Feedback will come from the student participants and the speakers. The training coordinators will review all the feedback they get from this workshop and submit a report with documentation to GASA and to the Schools Division Superintendent of Siquijor.

The following are excerpts from the evaluations of our 2003 GASA Fellows. All quotations are as written.

"I learned a lot in this 5-day training. Even if I am living here in the island of Siquijor, It’s my first time to go in Cang-alwang Airport, Dept. of Agriculture in Larena, Tulapos Sanctuary..."

"..from this seminar I am aware of what Siquijor is all about. I’ve got many information in conserving our environment for the next generation."

"The Department of Agriculture told us that they are giving a chance for the farmers in their “Plant now, pay later”, that is a big help for them."

"I learned to become a vocal person because in our activity we were sharing the diffeent alternative actions of the problems tackled by the authorities."

"We also shared the problems in our barangay and hoping that magagawan ito ng solution. Lalo na that our barangay officials who are manipulating our barangay ang unang gumagawa ng ‘di tama. They are abusing their power."

"In fact, I already know the guidelines in preserving and conserving our natural resources for the sustainable development of this through next generation."

"Having the historical places in this kind of island “wow sosyal”. Marami dapat tayong mapuntahan na magagandang lugar. We are to protect them from the harmful elements."

"It is my great privilege to join this seminar because I know myself that has a great responsibility to assure that our natural resources must be existing to the next generation so that they can experience of what we experienced right now in our island of Siquijor."

"Handling different people was “O nakakairita” lalo na pag baguhan pa lang siya at parang kontrabida ang dating. But because of this 5 day seminar, we overcome this one. We are now close to each other and have already a bonding relationship with everybody. We can no longer forget this training."

"This is a very big helped to me of not getting bored in this vacation and I have get more knowledge from the speakers, film and experiences. It includes the awareness to our surroundings, such as the kind of governance we have, what is Siquijor in the hand of our money hungry politicians and give me some ideas on how Siquijor should be developed."

"At marami kaming nalaman because of the speakers from SCORE, protecting marine ecosystem like mangroves and corals are also protecting the future. Giving importance to the environment was our task as youth of this island. So we are to do our task to protect it and preserve for the next generation."

"This training was a challenge for all of us, to be a good leader someday and of what we are going to do in the future."

"I have learned many things about our environment, culture, tradition and how God is so loving to us. God gave us so beautiful island, an abundant island… and now is so many problems come in terms of political, social and others."

"I would like to say that it was a good training because it makes me aware of the things that Siquijor have such as the historical convent and church in Lazi, the Brgy. Simcaolong mining site, the on-going repairs in the Lazi Wharf and the hidden beautiful spots in Siquijor."

"I have find love to our environment in Siquijor because I believe what the speaker said that, “We are the future”.  I have learned that a citizen have the obligation to protect the environment."

"This wasn’t just a seminar……I would prefer to call it as “something that lies deeper than a seminar or a workshop”. It … opened not only my eyes but also my mind and soul unto the genuine beauty of the province… helped me become aware of the real conditions of the province and that has given me the chance to help others."

"Honestly, before, I was not really that proud to be called a Siquijorian though I am not ashamed of it but now I feel that I could stand up and shout that I am a Siquijorian!. I guess I have to thank GASA for making me realize that."

"…It opens our minds and widened our views and visions especially about being responsible citizen and responsive leader. Many things are now clear and understood to me especially about our relationship with our environment. The cry of the ocean should now be heard."

"The training made me learn and think well how to find out certain actions, recommendations and alternative courses of actions for the problems in the barangays, farmers and fishermen."

"There is a bright future for Siquijor but that this could easily be darkened if we, Siquijorians will not work for its future and development. Siquijor could easily be wasted away if we, the youth,  will not make a move, if we will not let our voices be heard and if we will just let things be. Siquijor deserves a change, a change for the better."
